Name/Credentials: Ashley Temple, MBA, BSN, RN BMTCN, OCN.
Research Interests: Outcomes in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant
Personal Biography: Ashley Temple received her Accelerated BSN in Nursing from the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Sciences in 2018. Upon graduation, she began her nursing career at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center as a Stem Cell Transplant Nurse. Time on this unit exposed her to many different patient care experiences. Through this experience, she garnered insight into gaps in the patient experience. These gaps piqued her interest in research on this specific population to hopefully find and implement evidence-based solutions to bridge these gaps and produce greater positive patient outcomes. While an undergraduate student at the University of Miami, she was afforded the opportunity to participate in an evidence-based mental health research project with a professor. As a nurse at UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, she was a member of both the UPC and the Magnet committees. Ashley worked on several projects for the unit under both committees. She is currently working on a project to create a Stem Cell Transplant New Nurse Residency program. She is a current member of ONS (Oncological Nursing Society) and ASTCT (American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy) and is a certified Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider.
Ashley began her PhD studies in 2020 and serves as a research assistant. Her current research as an assistant focuses on Cancer patients and Cannabis. She is involved in the International Cannabis Research Lab (PI: Denise C. Vidot, Ph.D.) where she is a mentor for one public health undergraduate and one microbiology undergraduate. Ashley is the study coordinator on a project titled "A Multidisciplinary Approach to Assess Frequency, Patterns, and Reasons for Cannabis Use among Sociodemographic Diverse Cancer Patients in South Florida (NCI-P30CA240139-02S4 Project Director: Denise C Vidot, Ph.D., PI: Stephen Nimer, MD). Ashley also has several manuscripts in preparation; "Cancer Patients, Mental Health, and Cannabis: A Systematic Review", and "Association between Mental Health Status and COVID-19 Risk Behaviors among Cancer Survivors who Endorse Cannabis Use: Results from the COVID -19 Cannabis Health Study".
