Name/Credentials:  Roberto L. Roman Laporte

Research Interests:  LGBTQ+ Health Disparities, Environment of Care

Personal Biography: Roberto earned his associate degree in nursing from Miami Dade College in 2008 and was presented with an award for Community Service Excellence by Baptist Health.  He earned his BSN in 2011 and later earned his Master of Science in nursing with a focus in education from the University of Miami in 2014 where he was also inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International.  In 2018, he graduated from Johns Hopkins with a Doctor of Nursing Practice where his project focus was on improving novice nurse’s engagement with evidence-based practice. He is a Jonas Nurse Scholar.  In 2019, he was one of the first 40 people, globally, to earn certification in the specialty area of evidence-based practice awarded by the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare. He has worked as a medical-surgical registered nurse, corporate nurse educator, professor, and nurse scientist. He has served on various committees throughout his nursing career ranging from community advisory boards for various colleges, shared governance councils at local hospitals. He has also presented in various venues from classes, local and national conferences ranging in topics from preceptorship, mentoring, evidence-based practice and certification.
