Research Interests: Minority Health and Health Disparities, Intimate Partner Violence, and Psychological Trauma related to Sexual Violence
Personal biography: Shanelle is a New York City native with a passion for nursing, research and education. She graduated with a Master's of Public Administration from State University of New York The College at Brockport where she double majored in healthcare and nonprofit management. She holds an undergraduate degree from this institution as well and has been recognized for her leadership in advocating the concerns and underrepresentation of students of color. In graduate school, Shanelle worked as a Research Fellow for the Center for Governmental Research, during which she identified gaps in health care accessibility and evaluated federal grants implemented to address critical issues in public health and the economic status of disadvantaged communities. Following graduation, she worked as the Trauma Research Coordinator for Richmond University Medical Center, where she coordinated clinical research activities related to the trauma system. Shanelle returned to school at The University of Miami and graduated with her BSN in 2020. Shortly after, she began her nursing career in critical care at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Shanelle is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing Science at UM, where she hopes to further research to improve the psychological and emotional health for survivors of sexual violence and the staff members that empower them.
