Name/Credentials: Kathryn S. Gerber, RN-BSN

Research Interests: Traumatic brain injury, biomarkers of injury, physical and psychological trauma

Personal Biography:

Kathryn obtained her BSN from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated with honors. After working for 3 years as a bedside nurse in a variety of settings including medical-surgical nursing, telemetry, and rehabilitation nursing, she returned to school to obtain her PhD at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. Her interest in research began in Wisconsin when she participated in research in individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia in rural Wisconsin. Drawing upon her previous research experience and her clinical experience, she is currently designing her dissertation project which will involve examining symptoms, functional outcomes, and blood biomarkers in individuals who have sustained a moderate TBI (traumatic brain injury). Kathryn hopes that her dissertation study will help provide greater insight into the symptom experience of TBI patients, and that a greater understanding of outcomes and biological markers of TBI can help clinicians more accurately provide patient-centered care and aid in diagnosis of TBI.
